Somewhere along the way in my day-to-day working on the Internet, I came across the “Giveaway-a-Day” website. As in most other things I just signed up and then never did anything more.
Yes, I sign up for many newsletters and I am put on many mailing lists, kind of crazy isn’t it. Or maybe not? One thing I do is look at the headlines and learn what headlines catch my attention and which don’t and why.
I have learned that for me, if the headline does not give a decent description of what is contained within the body of the email, I will not open it.
I also note the “From” line. If it has some crazy name, I delete it. I need to easily recognize who sent the email. I also loose respect for the sender when they put a “*,~, -, etc” in front of their “From” field in the hopes that their email will be at the top of my list. I delete those as well.
With my “Junk Filter” I can easily separate those that I may eventually read and those that I have no interest in ever reading.
So what is my point or what is my message for today? It’s this: Today I actually opened and read the email from “Giveaway-a-“Day” and discovered what they do. Actually it is very ingenious. They give away software each day that you have just that day to download, for free.
They seem to have some pretty good products and yes I did miss out on getting some great and useful products. Now I will go there every day and check out their daily offer.
Why do they do this and how do they make any money by giving away free useful software? They do it for the same reason Yahoo, Google, and Hotmail offers free email services and other free services. The more traffic a website gets the more other businesses will pay to advertise on those sites.
Plus the software they giveaway comes without any help or future updates. So if you download free software and you really find it helpful, when they inform you that there is an important update available, guess what you will be doing?
That’s right. You will buy the software.
I just used the software I downloaded and it did a very good job. It did the following:
Glary Utilities Pro features:
- Automatic and periodical care in
background; - Optimize, clean and boost the speed of
your Windows; - Protect your privacy and security;
- Block spyware, trojans, adware, etc;
- Simple, fast and User friendly interface;
- All-in-one utility to speed up your PC.
